Chucked off yard with no notice

I am a client at a livery yard. Ive been there a LONG time. In all the time ive been there no-one has ever been asked to leave. There have been ups and downs, but its always been sorted out. The place is being sold to a former livery, I dont like her so I am intending to leave and have a place at a new yeard soon. However in the last month, she has told two people to 'get off the yard immediately' giving no notice, for no particular reason, minor issues at most. Obvioulsy its not that easy to move ones horse immediately, one was on box rest for an injury. I think shes using cocaine given her demeanour, and as I said Im planning to leave very soon.

Its a breach of our contracts to do this, is there, realistically any come back ? Thing is, who would want to stay with such an unstable owner, bur legally, if she breaks the contact ( it says 1 months notice either way from 1st of the month) is there a way to demand compensation eg the cost of emergency transport ?

Ive name changed for this, obviously, as I dont want to be next, before im ready to go

If it’s been sold I suspect all existing contracts are void. Unless you have signed a new contract with the new owner already, I suspect she can refuse to have you. You can take her to court I suppose but I doubt it will be successful without irontight contracts

I think although you say theirs been minor issues it depends if these were reported/documented. What does the contact say about warnings and notices. Did she give any warnings. The fact costs might be involved is irrelevant if she followed all the correct procedure, doesn't mean it right.

No warnings. No discussion. It’s not me who has been told to leave, I’m going although I have not yet given notice. One of the tea add ons I had already decided to go is that I’ve seen the new owner drinking on the yard and being very erratic, but this has really shocked me and all the rest of us are now really worried about who might be next

You don't get as much legal protection as say for employment or home rental tenancy.

Your best bet is to get out of there asap.

You would have to look at civil claims to get money back which is possible but if the owner is as batshit as you say them they will be unlikely to comply & you will end up with a lengthy dispute of bailiffs & 'cant pay, won't pay' drama
