Anyone watching trooping the colour?

A lot of the horses have what look like 2 fluffy balls attached to their headband on each side. Are they just decoration or is there a purpose to them? I thought they might be earmuffs but I haven't seen any of the riders lean over to wedge them in

I watched the ceremony. I usually enjoy the part where the ensign who is carrying the colour lowers it at arms length when he passes in front of the sovereign. I was disappointed not to get a clear view of it this time. Perhaps I should try another channel on catch up.
