Just in the process of buying first horse, bit confused as to the different insurance types. What do people normally get? He’ll be an all rounder so bit of everything. Vetting is next week (stage 5)

From bitter experience can I suggest you look at the life time policies- we’re with agria pet who do a lifetime . Signed up to it out of luck really as was a similar price to a yearly one but it has paid for itself multiple times over as my poor pony has had a recurrent keratoma and abscess in his foot over the last 2 years . They are still covering him

As a minimum you need personal accident + 3rd party liability. If horse is over 5K purchase price your insurance will request 5 stage vetting, if over 10K many ask for xrays.
You will have to declare horse's previous medical record ie injuries etc and then will get exclusions.
A lifetime policy can work well as many insurers refuse to insure after a certain age eg 18+ and as PP said, many illnesses can be long term.

Agria is a good shout for vet fees (their policies tend to be cheaper, but they are a co pay) and BHS for liability and rider insurance. I use them both

I recommend Agria too. They are the only one who do lifetime policies
