Best way to sell pony

We have a gorgeous 11.2. We've had her 3 years but child now outgrown her and replacement is already here. We need to find her a new home.

she's gorgeous and does everything - SJ, xc, pony club , NSEA and is fab at hacking and hunting.

No vices, lives out, barefoot with others.

We can't sell her ourselves as we live in quite a remote spot and son is a weekly boarder so we don't have alot of spare time.

We've found someone who specialises in pony sales. They've had her for 3 weeks. Very lovely but so far no viewings. The sales livery is expensive..

So do we try something else (more ££) or bring her home (and do nothing with her) or try to loan her out? Or just leave her sales posts up and bring her home and hope someone comes along at some stage?

We love her and could keep her as she's cheap to keep but she's only 9 and it seems a waste of a pony..

Sorry I missed out.. she's not everyone's cup of tea because she's very forward in an arena.. not nasty but quick.

Through pony club and word of mouth is often the best way, does your DC or instructor at PC know of any families looking? If not facebook is very popular, have you advertised her on all the local horse groups as well as horsequest etc? If home is more important than £, you could full loan to a known family/family from PC with a view to buy if all works out well...

I’d bring her home and try to find a loan

Are you in the pony club? If so good ponies usually have people queuing up to buy them. Particularly small ponies.

Finding a loan sounds tempting. Thankyou

Is she advertised? Pc and social media are the way forward these days for selling and tbh a dealer/sales barn does put people off. Have they said why no viewings in 3 weeks?

Bring her home and advertise her. Tell everyone you know she’s available. I wouldn’t buy from a dealer or sales yard but private home I have bought from. Don’t worry about her faults, just be honest. Every horse or pony has its faults, the buyer will decide if they can live with them or not.

Preloved has been good for us to advertise or Facebook.

Honestly, I think sales livery is a waste of money unless it's for expensive competition ponies and you pay the sales livery to improve their record. Otherwise, what's the point? You can just advertise the pony yourself for much cheaper

Ask your pony club DC & instructors if they know of anyone looking. All the best ponies get passed on.

I would definitely try and find a loan or lease home through the pony club and make it known that in the long term the pony is looking for a new owner.

crumpet · 15/06/2025 11:58

Can you not advertise on local PC boards?

justkeepswimingswiming · 15/06/2025 11:59

i would bring her home, advertise her for sale & loan and see what comes up. I wouldnt waste money on a sales livery.
