Loaning a pony

We’re loaning out our outgrown pony and I just have a query over insurance. With us he is just insured 3rd party, but who should insure him once he’s on loan. I was thinking it would be the loanee but dh is mithering that if the pony does something that is out of character from what I have described him as then it could come back on us.

Have a look at the BHS website for loan agreements.

We loan a horse full time and we pay for full insurance, this includes full liability insurance and also vets fees.

If it was my horse and I was loaning it out to someone I'd probably just insure it for public liability just in case. Harry Hall can provide this and it's cheap as chips.

When i loaned a couple out, i put in the contract that they had to fully insure and provide copy of policy cover for proof within 7 days and they were both fine with that

When we've had loans we've had full insurance and provided the owner with the policy details. I'd insist onit otherwise as soon as there a hefty vet bill your likely to find yourself lumbered with it.
