I loved these books as a child and escaped my not very nice reality into Jill’s world long before I ever started working at a stables in exchange for lessons.
I have just seen that the rights have been bought by Jane Badger who sells vintage pony books and she has republished the entire set so I’ve treated myself, sad old woman that I am.

I loved the Jill pony books.

LoreleiG · 29/04/2024 14:25

Oh that's a lovely thing to do.

I have several vintage Jill books on my shelf, mainly 70s paperbacks, probably bought at a jumble sale!

horseymum · 29/04/2024 14:26

That's lovely! I have most of them, might reread for nostalgia.

muddyford · 29/04/2024 14:30

I loved 'Jill's Gymkhana'.

DarkDarkNight · 29/04/2024 14:35

Oh I loved the Jill books, and The Saddle Club too.

While I’m on a thread of like-minded people can anyone remember a series of horsey books with a character or a horse called Ginny? I think the girl was called Ginny but can’t quite remember. It involved riding over Moors. I read them when I was in Primary School so early to mid 90s?

notanotherrokabag · 29/04/2024 14:36

ooh, tempted.....but there's something about never go back, it's never the same.....

PrimalLass · 29/04/2024 14:36

I absolutely loved these too. Thanks for posting this.

QuiltedHippo · 29/04/2024 14:37

I lovedddd pony books, only had Jill and the Perfect Pony which I bet is so ridiculously far fetched to read as an adult

BigRedCat · 29/04/2024 14:38

Oh I love these books!
Read them over and over again, and called my bike Black Boy for years 😂

The horse was called shanti I believe. The girl was called Jinny. I loved these books!!

Gladespade · 29/04/2024 14:40

You’re not sad, these were a lovely gentle read. I’m quite tempted too!

BigRedCat · 29/04/2024 14:42

I also loved a trilogy called (I think) Eventers Dream.

I loved 'Jill's Gymkhana'.

Me too - I think it is in the loft somewhere.

the80sweregreat · 29/04/2024 15:13

Can't remember Jill's friend's name , but I remember them going to work in the new forest with ponies there.
Also 'Jill and the perfect pony 'when she pretended to be someone else !
I adored these books so much and wanted my own pony ( never happened!)

Dizzywizz · 29/04/2024 15:15

Loved loved loved Jinny and Shantih too!!! And the books by the pullen-Thompson sisters

blobby10 · 29/04/2024 15:15

I loved both the 'Jill' books and 'Shantih'books - Jill used to annoy me with her constant 'If you're a good rider you know theres always something else to learn' and 'oh gosh how could I ever have thought I would compete at Chatton Show' blithering! it always seemed to be TOO self-deprecating for some reason!

The first Shantih book got read many times as I knew I would be far too much of a coward to follow any animal over snow covered moors and nearly die of cold Grin

I think that was Ann.

There's a fourth instalment of Eventers dream - I read it recently . I might have to buy the Jill set though , I lost most of mine some years ago !

Tupperwarelid · 30/04/2024 13:02

I've still got my original Jill books from the 70s/80s. I might have to get the two newer ones when I get paid!

MrMrsMoon · 30/04/2024 13:05

I loved those books and also the Pullein Thompson ones. I've just read the one where Jill's 'mummy' has married a rich man and they all live in a castle. Insane but fun 😊

TrtseHkpr · 30/04/2024 13:15

Loved these as a kid, I might buy them for myself!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/05/2024 22:12

Ohhh I used to love them , she had Black Boy and Rapide I think ?

And there was one with a girl she had to 'befriend /mentor' who she was really mean to .

I bought a big book of the Pullein-Thompson pony stories for my DD (obvs) but they had modernised them for the newer reader and they just weren't the same <stamps foot>
