Hi all, so I'm not horsey in the slightest and anything I do know comes from my 10 year old who is horse obsessed! She's been riding for about 4 years now and is desperate to go to a horse show. After googling I can see that the RWHS is next week and she has Thursday off of school for polling day so it would be perfect.

My problem is (and trying not to offend anyone) if I'm not horsey or very well off am I going to stick out like a sore thumb? I have no idea what I'm supposed to wear, is there a dress code?! I don't do smart generally, I work from home and live in jeans, sweatshirts and trainers!

I can suck up my anxiousness for one day if she's going to love it so I also wanted to check if this is a good one to go to? Is she likely to enjoy it?

Feel like I'm massively over thinking this!

I’m going on the Friday and have done for many years!

Most people will be in some version of jeans and jumpers depending on the weather. You only need to dress up if you’re in one of the members areas.

You definitely won’t stick out- you’ll have a fab day with your daughter!

I meant to say, there will be the Shetland pony grand national and mounted games which I’m sure your daughter would love!

I think Thursday is dressage day, so there won’t be jumping unless you’re there really early, but will be fabulous!

Just wanted to say that I love how much you want your daughter to have a great horsey day! I’ve not been to the RW but am a horsey person . I’ve been to lots of shows and would just wear weather suitable clothing- jeans, wellies, trainers, whatever. It can be a long day on your feet.
Some people may go ‘country style’ in some tweed , gilets, knee high boots , trilby etc as that is their personal style but anything goes! I’d go for a practical look and you’ll be fine. Have a fantastic time.

If you look here, https://rwhs.co.uk/shopping-windsor-horse-show/ the picture of one of the shopping isle shows everyone in varying degrees of casual - so whatever will be fine. I'd definitely take a light weight pac-a-mac style raincoat as showers are forecast, and wear comfortable and walkable boots/shoes as you'll do a LOT of walking.
Wednesday is dressage, day, Thursday there's a lot more on. To get a seat in the grandstand, I recommend timing it so you collect your cups of tea and eats/take your picnic and trying to go in immediately a load have gone out then sit and eat while you wait to watch. There's jumping in there from first thing, but later on The Pony Club Mounted Games are always great fun ditto the Shetland Grand National.
If you can hang about by the edge of the warm up arena for the main ring jumping you can often spot the stars, and some of them are kind enough to come over and talk/let you take a photo once they've jumped - make sure you've room on your phone for photos. Also when walking around the stand you'll find that some riders are sponsored by manufacturers who will have the celebrity rider booked to visit their stand at a certain time, so make a note and go back then and get your daughter's photo with the celeb. We have a great one of Scott Brash and my eldest killing themselves laughing because I couldn't work the camera, and loads of other celebs too.
Do visit the Pony Club stand, there's always an interesting display by the riders in the mounted games teams, and if you get your own pony it's always good to join, I can recommend their Manual of Horsemanship, my eldest learned every page!

If you are BHS members there is a 25% discount code in the Feb issue of their magazine for Thursday entry.

Jeans, jumper and a coat (waterproof 🤣) and you’ll be sorted. Just go and enjoy the day with your daughter
My mum is totally non horsey and she comes with me to the London International every year and loves it so I’m sure you will too

Thanks so much everyone, I feel a lot more comfortable about going now! Have said a definite yes to my daughter who is so excited, fingers crossed there won't be any rain and we can have a nice day.
