Best anti inflammatory supplement

Looking for tried and tested best anti inflammatory for a 16 year old mare, she’s just a hack so doesn’t need to be competition legal. She’s beginning to get a bit stiff and show her age (was a teens competition pony for many years so has clocked the miles up). She can be very sharp so nothing that will hot her up even more. Thanks

Boswellia is for anti inflammatory action, but if it’s care of joints you are after to keep her supple look into something with MSM, glucosamine, hyaluronic acid and chondroitin in too. Best Flex HA has all of the above. It’s not the cheapest, but the manufacturers often have a special offer on. All of the above ingredients are competition legal anyway. I have 2 of my horses on it, they have covered a lot of miles in competition and I want to keep them in the best shape I can.

I’ve tried all sorts, but now just go with as much turnout as possible.

Most supplements can't be absorbed so are just pooed out the other end! If you think of the size of a horse then 1 tiny scoop of anything isn't going to have much impact plus as I said, oral supplements aren't absorbed correctly..
Prevention is better than cure but as you've said she was hammered in her youth then just lots of turnout, not riding in small circles etc are the best things.

Have a look at CBD Support for Horses and Dogs group on Fb. It’s brilliant for older, stiff horses. I use Hempine powder for mine.

I feed my daughters 29 year old pony Equi Flow which has made a real difference to her movement. She is remarkable for her age, has been on Equiflow for 2 years now and I won't take her off it.

As much turnout as possible is the best thing in my experience. I look after an old arthritic horse and he doesn't take any extras - but he has 24/7 turnout and it helps immensely. He does have access to a stable but only ever uses it when it's really hot or the weather is really bad.

The freedom to move around whenever they like makes more difference than any supplement IMO.
