Equestrian clothing brands

is Harry Hall a good clothing brand for a teenage rider? I see everyone at the stables in LeMieux or Ariat but don’t know if it’s just a fashion thing. There are so many brands like Aubrion, Pikeur and I don’t know if it’s worth paying the extra for the names or if there are good quality lower priced brands that wouldn’t be embarrassing to wear. The equestrian world is not one I know well but DD loves riding and Xmas is a good chance to buy some new bits for her.

Harry Hall has been around for donkey’s years. Le Mieux is a consumerism train wreck, who needs a new colour every few months?!

If you’re unsure, vouchers for the local tack shop will be a hit!

Feckedupbundle · 03/12/2023 19:21

Harry Hall are perfectly good and been around for a long time. My youngest Dd lives Le Mieux, busy as it's her own money she's spending, and it makes her happy,I leave her to it. I have ordered her the Loire riding coat for Christmas, because she's an apprentice rider and wanted one for work, her boss said that they were easier to ride in than Equidry.
Remember that there's no shame in buying second hand. Horse people love a bargain and there's never any shortage of people selling stuff on eBay or FB marketplace, especially if they've had an unexpected vet bill.
I got a Pikeur jacket for DD for £20,and a LeMieux head collar and lead rope for 30p at a car boot sale.

cowgirl42 · 03/12/2023 19:23

Le Mieux is so expensive. My daughter took a fancy to a stuffed horse and tack pieces that you can buy for it. I have got her it for Christmas. The clothing seems very popular at the moment.

twistyizzy · 03/12/2023 19:28

Aztec Diamond or Le Mieux around here for teenagers. I'm so thankful DD has inherited my distaste of matchy march so she doesn't give a shit what she's wearing, makes it so much cheaper!

CocoonofDavid · 03/12/2023 19:33

I think previous poster has the best idea- vouchers for local or even online tack shop. A lot will have big discounts for January sales. She can then choose something herself.

Harry hall is ‘fine’… I get the impression it’s not a coveted brand as such, but I wouldn’t think it embarrassing either (but then I’m not a teenager!).

RandomUsernameHere · 03/12/2023 19:55

Harry Hall has been around for decades and was always reasonable quality, but all the "youngsters" are wearing Ariat here.

Littlebitpsycho · 03/12/2023 19:58

Harry Hall is "fine" although not fashionable perhaps for teens.

My pre-teen DD and her friends all wear Ariat/Lemieux/Aztec Diamond/Holland Cooper/Aubrion

Vouchers always a good shout!

Autumn1990 · 03/12/2023 19:59

Harry Hall is good quality and lasts but it isn’t trendy.

FestiveGrinch · 03/12/2023 21:14

Thank you all you have sadly confirmed pretty much what I suspected and I will have to shell out for a ‘name’ especially as I suspect she’d like a colour set and everything seems to come emblazoned with the name.

Le mieux is what all the girls at our yard have

my sharer has pretty much every matchy matchy set going !

CeliaCanth · 03/12/2023 21:28

I must admit - you won’t go wrong with Le Mieux. As well as it being very popular with the image-conscious riders, it’s decent quality and wears well in my experience.

TodayInahurry · 05/12/2023 08:15

I used to buy Harry a hall ages ago and found it poor quality. I don’t wear Le Mieux because of the matchy matchy thing, but it wears well and sells well second hand. I wear Ariat yard boots, but the clothes have large logos on them which I don’t like.

what do the other girls of her age weather?

Niassa · 05/12/2023 22:46

I’m neither young nor trendy but am very impressed by the quality of my new Le Mieux Loire winter riding coat- it’s fantastic on my freezing/rainy/windy hacks.
No idea about the brand image though!

gwenneh · 05/12/2023 22:51

who needs a new colour every few months?!

Me. 😂I just bought everything in "Spruce". We also have a full set of "Fig".

The Loire gilet vest is lovely, and I also just bought the Charlotte soft shell jacket which I'm using for every day wear.

I also have a few pieces from Cavallo, similar idea and very durable.

Pleasedontdothat · 06/12/2023 08:06

For most, the matchy matchy phase doesn’t last long so I’d be inclined to indulge your dd (as long as she’s otherwise fairly grounded). When my dd was a teenager she was delighted to get anything from Le Mieux, Ariat, Aztec Diamond Equestrian, Pikeur, PS of Sweden. A lot of show jumpers wear stuff from Mochara (they do fancy show shirts - too blingy for eventers!). Dd loves the winter breggings from Blackfort equestrian, but mostly she now wears whatever’s to hand that doesn’t have holes and saddle pads are whichever her boss’s sponsors have left in the tack room .

twistyizzy · 06/12/2023 08:13

Just avoid Kingsland for obvious reasons!

Deliaskis · 07/12/2023 10:03

Honestly, putting aside the new colour matchy matchy thing, LeMieux is in my experience really good quality. For riding tights for example, DD has about 5 pairs in different colours and they are worn ever day, and she rides 6 days, and they are still like new when they come out of the wash. Ariat ones by comparison have pretty much fallen apart, as have Aubrion (which are a lot cheaper anyway). Have just got her the short riding coat and it's very very good quality, warm and dry but also practical and not too short that her whole bum and hip area gets cold and wet. Again compared to her Ariat coat it's far better quality. Pony has 2 LeMieux rugs which I got second hand which are lasting and lasting beyond many others we have had.

So don't eschew LeMieux just because of the matchy matchy thing, underneath that, it is good quality stuff.

FestiveAuntFanny · 07/12/2023 14:58

Another vote for Lemieux, it does wear well.

DD gets a lot of wear from equithème stuff too - they do nice soft jackets and good warm jodhpurs.

Also Penelope is very popular with quite a lot of teens at the stables - but priced according!

wherethewildtbingsgo · 10/12/2023 21:39

You could do a few non-branded or more basic base layers with some Le mieux pieces to add in.

I really love the Just togs equinox riding tights which are cheap, have a phone pocket and wear really well and look smart too. I've also seen a few matchy matchy base layers you can buy off random equestrian websites. But my Le Mieux Loire gilet is just the absolute best- super flattering, so well made and really warm with lovely faux lining.

MissCordeliaPreston · 13/12/2023 18:54

Penelope Leprevost clothing is all the rage in France and the quality is pretty good.

CatWoman12345 · 13/12/2023 21:20

@twistyizzy why avoid Kingsland ??

liveforsummer · 15/12/2023 22:24

The Harry hall stuff actually looks nice. I wanted to get the powder blue set for dd and the matching saddle pad looked lovely. Was put on Black Friday sale, not sure why as when I looked as soon as sale went live it was out of stock In everything but a size 20 on top and the hat cover also oos. Dd getting tired of Le mieux everything so would have been happy with the HH for a change

AgMaggy · 15/12/2023 22:38

I like the quality of Le Mieux but I wish they'd make the arms longer! Also the saddle pads have changed slightly and don't fit my deep barrel horse anymore.

I love Blackfort Equestrian! I will forever recommend them.

Owned by Helgstrand and no-one should support them! If you don't know, look it up.

The saddle pads really are very small. Our pony with a 16.5 saddle uses the large pads so not sure how they are expected to fit a larger horse. The mini range is no good for any more than a Shetland although the clothing goes up to age 13 so can't get the matching horse stuff to go with the base layers
