My friend rents a yard with 8 others and they divide the grazing equally per horse, 3 of the yard come in all year at night and the rest stay out at night all summer. Everyone is in at night in winter.
Due to the grass growth this year the field of the ones that come in at night has considerably more grass than the out all night people.
It kicked off recently as the out at night field wanted some of the in at night field as they were running out of grass and don’t want to hay as the hassle of it and cost. The in at night field pointed out that the extra grass is only there because of the expense in time and money of the in at night owners who have paid for hay and bedding the whole year, and while it is their choice to bring in it’s also the choice of others to leave out.
Im not in either field but a friend of the yard in general and stuck in the middle somewhat just wanted to get a sanity check/opinion on this.
Not an option to have them all in together for many reasons as the in at night field have a much tighter worming testing regime then the out of night ones and also will be a clash of personalities with both horses (and I honestly think owners) if they were all to share a field .
Just to reiterate every horse owner has the same size of acreage to work with.
Oh the joys of the horse world and thank you for reading.
