Best hi-vis for hacking

I’m currently on a mad shopping spree for my coblet. Unless I box up I need to hack on roads near my house so I’m planning on doing my best Xmas tree impression 😉

Can we put together a list of the hi-vis must-haves for horse and rider please?

I’ve got a tabard and jacket which are hi-vis with reflective stripes and am planning on getting a hat cover/band. I need something to go on the horse too. Any recommendations gratefully received 😊

The “Polite” range is the best I’ve ever had, I’d go for their exercise sheet

Polite range by equisafety is the best. Love it.

We have that equisafety pink sheet although pony is a little hot bod so can only use it fully clipped in the depths of winter. We have a hi viz fly veil sourced free from the royal highland show the we are yet to use. Don't usually use veils as a bit of a matchy fad but will make an exception for winter riding. We have a tail strap for when we don't use the sheet (most of the year) and a bread plate. Did have leg wraps but seemed to make pony's legs itchy and now I've taken his feathers off which would probably solve the problem they are too big 😆 also have a hat band. Important as highest point can be seen over bushes etc. You can probably see us from space but a horse and rider locally were hit from behind a few months ago - both hospitalised for a significant time and not fully recovered so we went all out after that. It's worth noting that although we are all pink we were told by the bhs road safety officer giving out the veils that ideally you should mix colours of hi viz to be extra visible and always have at least 3 different items

There is a fabulous tail guard type thing with hi viz streamers ... will try to find the link

Thank you

I don’t know how hot he’ll get yet so will probably hold off on an exercise sheet for now.

@liveforsummer where did you get the hi-vis breastplate from please?

@Pleasedontdothat it's equiflector which I think is by shires iirc. I got it I think from GS equestrian but imagine loads of places stock it. Hat bands are from there also.

Perfect thank you 😊

These !!

I made my own version of this; bought 2m of hi-viz yellow and 2m of silver reflective ribbon from eBay, knotted round a hair band and voilà!

I really rate V-Bandz range of stuff and always go for (at least) one thing on rider and one on horse in case we part company. As mentioned upthread it’s also good to have a range of colours and to think about when/ where you’re hacking out eg yellow isn’t brilliant if there’s lots of oilseed rape fields round you, while pink/orange may blend in Autumn round deciduous trees.

MrsRusselBrand · 20/08/2023 22:10

@Astronutter that is a good point about colours actually !! I also make sure my dd is wearing something as well as our lad ( plus he's a bay so he blends easily into the trees ) Smile

Another vote for v-bandz.

I find equisafety good, buy they are pricey for the quality IME.
