Stylish riding gear?

Just taken on a loan at a smarter yard than I'm used to and suddenly feeling a bit shabby. Need a slight riding wardrobe refresh that doesn't cost the earth. Where do you buy nice understated adult riding gear?! Not keen on massive brand names down the arm/leg, pastel colours or rhinestone embellishment. I'm pushing 50 so don't want to look like my daughter in a Pom Pom silk and Le Mieux matching set. Looking online is leaving me bamboozled...

God I look a mess 99% of the time and I'm on a competition yard 🤣. Some people seem to be effortlessly smart and tidy on a yard, I'm not one of them! I tend to bulk buy cheap polo tops at county shows etc and then just wear a fresh one every day. I would never spend £££ as they just get sweaty in summer and muddy in winter!
Look for sales online in summer and winter to get better quality stuff eg Ariat in the sales.
Decathlon can be good for a bargain too.

Piqueur for joddies. They are extremely comfortable too. Fit so beautifully. Must be able to get them online. In winter I loved my full length chaps but don’t imagine they’d be everyone’s cup of tea

Thank you - will do. It's never bothered me before but just dawned on me I'd been rotating the same breeches/tights for the past 15+ years and not one of them was without paint splats/holes. Got some Dublin full seat tights recently but hate the silicone suckers on them, so they have been banished to the bottom of the wardrobe.

Pikeur look beautiful. Are they worth the extra ££?

Imvho to look stylish, you do have to throw money at it. Decathlon and lower end stuff looks cheap. The Pikeur riding tights for instance cost around £100 but they are super stylish, extremely comfortable and the material repels stains, hay, straw etc. Likewise, a pair of £400 de Niro boots look so much more stylish than a clumpy pair of bog standard clumpy boots. Try ebay. Sought after names still sell for quite high prices but you can still get a bargain every now and then.

I'm not into the whole matchy thing (I'm 58) but I do love le meuix denim breeches. They fit beautifully and last ages and look smart. I look a scruff most of the time despite my best efforts 😆

I had the same when my horse went to a professional for schooling. I bought some lovely mountain horse jods and boots with half chaps. Now I have started competing again this has meant a whole new wardrobe, after I realised that my competition gear was older than my adult children!

Ha!! I've had my hacking jacket since I was a teenager!! I really love clothes and my everyday wardrobe has a massive churn, but for some reason my riding wardrobe just never changes.

Sorry been away for a bit. I still have my Pikeurs from twelve years ago and they are my favourite. Yes I think they’re worth it! I hate throwing away

TodayInahurry · 05/12/2023 08:17

I generally wear Pikeur, it looks smart, fits me and wears well for years.
