Being bullied off yard😔

I realised too late when it happened to someone else recently (I had little contact with them but they’d been kind when I asked for advice). Now it’s our turn. No real point to thread except to wallow. Been happy there for 3.5 years. Thought the yard owner had a back bone but a recent addition has thrown a grenade in. We do have facilities at home and have found a potential companion but I really prefer the companionship and experience of a yard (plus a lit arena for the winter). Just miserable others are so spineless and mean.

What happened?

Quite obv it’s a small world so I don’t want to go into specifics!……. But I’m hoping that it might slowly dawn on the owner of the yard that I have enough land & facilities to take x4 of her current clients who are struggling with current costs and quid pro quo can help me in return with knowledge. It seems many might end up happy through our ‘misfortune’…

Sorry to hear this, in almost 20 years at a yard I had 3 nasty bully type experiences. Once when had a new baby a livery who later left was horrible about baby on yard, made point of tying up outside my stable and letting me know once that they would tell me when I needed to move pram so they could - to where, was just trying to cope with daily life at that stage and obvs needed baby near, they left after that thankfully and seemed hard to please. Second was really nasty about pretty much my approach to everything- have BHS exams/ used to work on a yard etc so no novice but they were mean. Last one I left as horse wasn't happy but anyone who visited yard would have thought they were in charge and so bossy and rude. Massive track record with that one of bullying people off that yard and still at it. All three had in common that they seemed a bit mentally unwell, had a frenemy style and spent a lot of time at the yard sometimes with nothing else going on for them, superior I know everything attitude, nasty streak and attempted to isolate people and recruit others to criticism. Some of my best friends came from that time and some people I would happily never see again. We now have own yard and no liveries as too much hassle if goes wrong.

Should say these were different yards. Hope it works out well having yours at home

It's such a shame when that happens. Never happened to me fortunately but I've seen it happen when the yard owner doesn't have a handle on things. Honestly in your shoes I'd walk, and take the others with you! A lit arena is nice, but I am now on a small (very friendly!) yard with zero facilities and it's absolutely wonderful because the handful of us there are pretty much fair weather riders anyway, or else book an arena together. And anyone new is vetted before they are allowed on!

Very sad, fortunately I have found my perfect yard after years of having them at home. One horse, fantastic staff, yard owner won’t tolerate bad behaviour. Very expensive but worth every penny.

if you want to have them at your yard be sure you get proper insurance
