My new pony has nits!

We’ve just taken delivery of a loan pony for my youngest daughter. He’s a smashing little chap, however we’ve discovered he has lice in his forelock and forehead. Only there strangely enough.
Can anyone advise what I treat him with? And what do I wash my grooming kit with which the kids have been using on all ponies 😭

I haven’t been around horses since I was a kid so I have no advice. But I’m genuinely gobsmacked- I had no idea horses could get nits! So thanks @Thatbloomindog im fascinated now!

I wash my brushes in the washing machine in an old pillow case. Iw ould never use my brushes on another horse. Ever.

Insecticidal shampoo then Deosect. Repeat after 2 weeks.

Deosect. Vet grade stuff. Bit pricey but a little goes a long way and it also doubles as a fly repellent. My very old pony is prone to lice - every year I eliminate them, his field mates don't have/catch them, and every winter they come back! I have used the green Dermoline shampoo in the past but this time I went nuclear and used Deosect. No more lice!

Ah, happy memories of shaking Lincoln louse powder out of the big black and yellow container into the roots of my pony's mane and rubbing it in. I probably inhaled a ton of it. Double check any remaining winter coat under his belly.
