Just tell them that you always leave them without food / water over xmas because you like staying cosy at home.

Anewhoo · 24/12/2022 22:06

No, I train them not to eat or defecate on Christmas Day. I’ve do the same, saves me a fortune on Turkey and Brussels sprouts.

Okwotnext · 24/12/2022 22:13

I do the horses but don’t bother with the in -laws so it sort of evens out 😜

Melon9 · 24/12/2022 22:15

I think everyone expects horse owners to have them on full livery, like we're all that rich.

We all team up to share bringing in and turning out but I quite like getting out to do them. My record was bringing in 11 😆

They are my afternoon escape. God knows what excuse I'd find for an hour if I didn't have mine.

Mollyplop999 · 25/12/2022 07:19

Yes I've had that question many times

ForeverTeach · 25/12/2022 07:20

We are at the yard, I quite like the peace to be honest. Just me and my youngest. I am making the most of it before I go home to the carnage!

twistyizzy · 25/12/2022 07:23

Yep 😄 5am at yard to do horse/walk dog and now back home awaiting DD to wake up and open presents! Then back to yard 2pm to bring in for me and a friend. PIL can't understand why I have to do it and can't sit down to eat Christmas lunch at 1pm. I love it, gets me out of having Xmas with them!

Bunchymcbunchface · 25/12/2022 07:24

I love it, it always makes me smile.
The genuine shock in some people’s faces that horses (or indeed all farm animals) require care, even on Christmas Day….

Argh - loan companion horse arrived yesterday morning - all good, they’re getting on well, mooching around the field - went out this morning and he’s non weight-bearing on his right hind - probably abscess but I’ve just realised that all my first aid stuff is at dd’s house and she’s here .. why do things like that happen on Christmas Day 😩

EverestMilton · 26/12/2022 08:15

Ponies at home so I do them everyday unless we're on holiday. Christmas day is my favourite day to do horses. Early morning cuddles and carrots. Chuck them out while I muck out. Lovely breakfast of coffee and croissants. Then a leisurely plod around the village enjoying the zero traffic and cheerfully saying Merry Christmas to everyone. Come home to more coffee and presents. Perfect!

I rent a field and stables 10 minutes from home. My sister in law’s brother in law (!) was totally amazed that I had been up there twice yesterday and “even done the mucking out?!”

I go up at 7.30am, after the kids have opened presents and do all the jobs then we go up late afternoon to bring in and the kids give their ponies treats and the reddest apples we could find.
