Never thought I'd say it but how bloody glad was I this morning to get to the fields and see mud and waterlogging. The birds were singing again, the taps were working, there was no ice on the water buckets and I can poo pick properly. It won't last of course and this time next week I will be cursing slogging through the mud with a heavy wheelbarrow, but for now - Mud, I love you!!

Being able to ride as well! Our arena has been rock solid for about 10 days and the lanes have all had far too much ice on them to be sensible.

JaneJeffer · 19/12/2022 11:51

Thought you meant this until I saw the topic

Mollyplop999 · 19/12/2022 14:03

JaneJeffer that made me laugh!

Yes OP it was lovely not to have frozen hands, feet, taps, water. Like you I'll no doubt be grumbling in a few days when everything is caked in mud.

alloalloallo · 19/12/2022 14:06

I was ok with the mud, happy about non-frozen taps, not having to break ice in water troughs etc.

Until one of my useless field ornaments rolled in the muddiest part of the field in a freshly washed and re-proofed rug that I only picked up from the tack shop yesterday afternoon.

RatherBeRiding · 19/12/2022 14:15

None of mine are rugged thank goodness - all hairy and scruffy - or they'd no doubt be eyeing up the newly appeared pond in a low lying dip!

It was absolutely pissing down this morning so I took pity on them and chucked their light weights on.

I don’t know why I bother 🤦‍♀️

JaffavsCookie · 19/12/2022 18:49

I was happy to see the mud this morning, by teatime tonight when i saw my mud monsters I was fed up of it again 😳

Eventingmum · 20/12/2022 11:25

I too was happy to see the mud until my cob stomped in a big water logged patch and splashed it all down my wellies! lol

Biddie191 · 20/12/2022 13:55

Neither are ideal, are they? Either having to spend ages carrying hot water back and forth to thaw the troughs, or slogging through mud and trying to find a coat that isn't saturated.
Still would never give up the horses though!

Eventingmum · 16/01/2023 11:20

Ok - fed up of the mud now! lol

RatherBeRiding · 17/01/2023 14:36

I too am now fed up with the mud but the big freeze has returned where I am and the water is frozen, the poo is frozen and they are picking their way across the frozen mud very, very gingerly and obviously not enjoying the underfoot conditions. I'll take the mud over the freeze any day!

Yes - I’m fed up of fishing great lumps of ice out of the water trough. I tried to do some poo picking but it was welded to the ground .. I’m getting through masses of hay and neither of them is enjoying walking on the frozen ground. Roll on Friday and more normal temperatures 🤞🏻
