My pony died this week. It wasn't peaceful, he had a twisted gut. The vet tried but he couldn't be saved. I can't believe after all these years it's ended like that. He'd been with me for a very long time.
Just don't know what to do with myself now.

I'm so sorry. This happened to my horse when I was 17 and my aunt largely shielded me from it.

Losing a horse or pony leaves such a huge void. It sounds like you did everything you could, and he will have felt such peace when the pain stopped, and that's the important part, you made the right decisions by him and he is now free of any discomfort whatsoever. It's the shittiest bit of animal ownership, being left without without them by your side x

BlueChampagne · 02/11/2022 13:57

Oh you poor thing, so sorry to hear that.

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 02/11/2022 14:44

I'm so sorry. This happened to my beautiful boy 13 years ago and I still miss him deeply. He'd been with me 23 years - from child to adult. He had a wonderful life with you, no doubt, and loved you unreservedly.
Be kind to yourself, allow yourself time to grieve. Remember the good times. Do something to remember him - I had a beautiful portrait done of my boy, which hangs in my living room. I'm thinking of you and promise you it does get less painful. X

So sorry @thetemptationofchocolate , that’s very sad . We’ve lost a few horses but never with that particular problem . 💐

Pleasedontdothat · 02/11/2022 16:33

I’m so sorry - what a horrible shock for you. Losing an animal is never easy but it’s especially difficult when it’s sudden xxx

Mollyplop999 · 02/11/2022 17:05

So sorry , I lost one the same way a few years back. It's awful as you haven't been able to prepare yourself. Sending you a big hug.

cushioncovers · 02/11/2022 17:06

Kanaloa · 03/11/2022 13:59

I’m so sorry xx your poor pony, and poor you. That’s the worst of having an animal really, you know they’ll leave you at some time!

You sound like you were really devoted to him, and he must have had a good and happy life, and that’s what matters.

hattie43 · 03/11/2022 14:02

That is horrific I'm so sorry . I too lost my horse in awful circumstances so feel your pain

Apileofballyhoo · 03/11/2022 14:14

I'm so sorry, OP. For the loss and the suffering, both must be breaking your heart. 💐

LadyVictoriaSponge · 03/11/2022 14:19

So sorry OP what a dreadful shock, your pony will have loved you very much, I hope you can find some solace in that Flowers

sanityisamyth · 03/11/2022 14:20

Sorry to hear that OP. I lost my show jumper to colic when he was 26 and am still heartbroken. Some horses just have a very special place.

MmedeGouge · 03/11/2022 14:55

So sad to read this.

Its so painful to lose a well loved horse in this way.
In the future you will remember all the good times you shared together. In the meantime look after yourself.

krustykittens · 08/11/2022 18:10

I am so, so sorry, OP. We have had to put a few ponies down over the years and I remember each and every single one of them and still miss them. Take care of yourself and remember the good times.
