Looking for recommendations please...

Young horse out in a group of other playful youngsters. I've tried second hand and cheap and cheerful but looking for recommendations of a quality rug with super tough outer to hopefully last the whole winter.

Happy to pay for quality if it's likely to last.

I have tried most brand over the years and Rambo's are the only ones that last. They are expensive but worth it. Shires might also be worth a look if you don't have the budget for Rambo.

I have recently bought a Gallop Trojan Xtra after some recommendations from others so will be interesting to see how it lasts.

I have rambo that are over 20 years old and near perfect. Try ebay, I just sold a load at only £50 each because I wanted them gone.

Also look at the big horse shop. As the name suggests it's intended for big horses so materials tend to be tougher but they've now started making normal sized rugs too.

Rambo/Rhino are the best imo.

Horseware ( Rambo/ rhino) are the best and if you shop around you can pick them up in the sales . My sister just bought our pony a new one for £35 , although she is only a 5’3” .

It's the denier you need to look at! Cheap rugs are 600g denier but really you need at least 1200d if not 1680d. Luckily they usually state in the details the denier. More makes are doing the thicker denier now it just used to be Premier Equine but. Ow there's much more choice!

Another vote for Rambo / Rhino, really good rugs, and seem to stay waterproof better, too. If you do go cheaper, I've found the Rhinegold ones really good for the money

Another vote for Rambo, i have some that are 20+ years old. They are expensive though. I have recently ( 3 years but that’s recent for me) been using weatherbeeta rugs and they have been holding up well ( i went for the 1200D ones)

Yet another vote for Rambo. I have various ones, all second hand and quite old, that have been absolutely hammered for many, many winters outdoor in atrocious weather and all remain waterproof. There have been a few minor tears but they mend well. They very rarely, if every, get washed and reproofed and are all still going strong.

Agree with @typos !
look at the denier of the rug.

Always Rambo or Rhino. They are expensive but they are good quality and last for ages - I buy Rhino Lightweight and then just add liners if needed.
