Flooring for Shelter

Hi everyone,

I’m in Australia so I’m not sure if I have the same needs as the awesome knowledgeable people on here, but I thought I would try my luck.

I have an outdoor shelter, it has rubber sides with a 30cm gap between the roof iron and the rubber, it gets quite hot in summer so I wanted to allow airflow. We have been having some awful rainey weather lately and I would like to put a rubber mat down (I can anchor it to the shelter) with wood shavings over the top.

I just wanted to see if there are any opinions on using a wash bay mat (the one with the holes for drainage) vs a stable mat style?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

I used wash bay mats to try and stop areas getting too muddy. Unfortunately when the ground got wet they ended up sinking due to the weight of horses and the fact they have holes in. We have always used proper runner stable mats in shelters and they work really well. Just make sure drainage is good
