What would you say a rider weight limit is for a 11hh Shetland x Welsh A pony ? Photo attached.

She's currently used for lead rein but want to get a rider to educate her off the lead - so need an idea of rider weight.

I would guess from the photo maximum 7st for a consistent rider, could get away with 8 once a week for schooling. Also build up slowly till he's used to the weight as he won't be that fit if only used for LR.
Cute pony!

Try and keep rider to 10% of the ponies weight (bearing in mind you then have tack and clothes on top). NB - if the pony is overweight (I’d say this one is ok!) then reduce rider weight rather than increase (or groundwork to get the pony fitter and stronger before riding).

Teeny tiny. She looks very fine.
Whereabouts are you, I know a few brilliant under 11 128 riders who ride nicer than most adults

As a rule of thumb 15-20% ( including tack) of the weight of the pony so I would work it out based of that.
A lot comes down to rider balance etc too, I used to ride a gelding not to dissimilar, I’m 49kg. Only ever schooled and hacked once or twice a week to bring pony on.
She looks very sweet!
