Can I see your rosettes?

Helping to plan a small local horse show (realistically it'll be next year when it first runs). Looking for inspiration for rosettes/ribbons because I don't want to just do 1st-6th or whatever. Can anyone help?

Thank you 😁

Hi OP, I've asked MNHQ if they're able to move your post over to the Tack Room board where you'll find more horsey users who might be able to help you 😊

Thanks, we've moved this to the Tack Room.

Thanks! Had two tabs open, posted in the wrong one 😂😁

When you say you don't want to just do 1st to 6th, what exactly do you mean? The standard "special" rosettes for all participants, or were you thinking of something more like that Emily Cole illustration of rosettes for not crying / spectacular spooks / dismounts? Do you want to see people's rosettes for styles and colour schemes, or are you looking for deeper inspiration, basically?

Sorry, really didn't explain it very well - what I mean is I don't want to just have number placings I mean just the numbers, like the pic below.

I'd like them to be more personalised, maybe with the show name. I'm just looking for different ideas really!

I've also been away from horses for for a few years so I'm not sure what's in right now.

So you want a nice tiered sort of rosette with a logo and the show name as well as the placing? That's fairly standard, so you should be able to see a lot of options of that sort from any of the people who sell them online. The last time I ordered a set of rosettes, there were endless options for personalisation of that sort. That was a good few years ago though.

If you're going for "special", people used to be very drawn by sashes instead of rosettes, some places do sashes for all placings not just first. Perhaps that's changed - I know more people who turn down rosettes and prefer a voucher for a cup of coffee or nothing at all these days. Possibly it's just that most of my friends are boring sods now!

I have a question about horse/pony shows. My son goes to riding lessons each week and is coming along really nicely especially considering he is on the bottom percentile for DCD and struggles with majority of daily tasks. I wondered if there were any pony shows for kids who don't have their own? Is this a thing or is it just tough luck til you get your own? If I were to look into a part loan, how much would I be looking at paying? Hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread!

Does the riding school not run its own shows? Most do and it’s a good introduction to competing on home turf. If yours doesn’t then it might be an idea to find a slightly bigger one that does.

It’s really tricky to find shares or part loans for novice children with non-horsey parents I’m afraid. Quite a few riding schools have started offering ‘shares’ - these are usually extortionately expensive compared to a private share but the upside is there’s a lot of support on tap and it can be a good way to learn how to look after a horse/pony before you’re ready for your own.

As @Pleasedontdothat says riding schools often organise their own shows. If you are anywhere near London I can recommend riding schools that organise regular shows. Your son can ride a school pony for the show
