Has anyone experienced strangles?

Possibly at my yard. Literally no idea how. One borderline test, needs retesting, but another may be showing symptoms today. It's these symptoms I'm unsure about.

Yes. We bought a new horse that had just come over from Ireland. We had him about a week and he started to cough and had a teeny bit of snot, no other symptoms. Tbh if he hadn't been new I would have just soaked his hay and not called the vet but if it was RAO I would have considered sending him back to the dealer. The vet thought it was another bug that most adult horses carry in their but only get affected by if they are stressed or run down. Ours had been stuck in a bad traffic jam on the motorway when he was delivered doubling what should have been a 2 hour journey on a hot day. By the time we got the results back the voucher and snot had stopped. "Luckily" we had moved yard at the time we bought him and my 2 were in a paddock away from the others. My other one was recovering from atypical myopathy and the vets were worried how he would cope but although he subsequently tested positive he was completely asymptomatic.
Tbh the reactions of other horse owners in the area was a nightmare. One girl on the yard got all sorts of vile messages via social media as someone said she was still going out competing - her horse was actually on box rest following an injury sustained before the new one arrived! Someone who didn't know it was my horses told me that 3 horses on the yard had definitely died, only my 2 were very mildly affected.

Thanks for your response. Horse 1 has had 2 tests, and we still don't have a conclusive result. But horse 2 is showing signs, has been tested. Waiting results.

None have been competing. Just occasional hacking round the local area. There are other horses around.
