Pony with mites

We purchased a cob two weeks ago - very hairy feathery wee thing. Had her vetted, no issues so went ahead.

She's been stamping her feet and biting her legs so I had a good root around and chopped into her feathers to find scabs and mites.

I've ordered stinky stuff and invermectin wormer and the vet is due to come on the 28tj for injections if it hasn't cleared up by then.

BUT (huge but) she won't let me near her legs now. I tried to shampoo with stinky stuff today and she must be sore and itchy as she just won't let me touch her - kicking out and wheeling around.

Tomorrow I plan to take her indoors and distract her with pony nuts while dh and ds try to help me clip her and treat her legs but I wondered if anyone had more advice. She is my first pony in a very long time (got her for dd).

I need to get her shoes off too as they've been on weeks too long and have her feet trimmed but I can't see her letting the farrier anywhere near right now. I might try tying her ip on both sides but I don't want this to end up in a stressy fight and she's only just settling in with her.

Help!

Could you sedate for farrier and clip at same time? Sometimes it is better than stressing them out over it.

Hi.
Ive had my pony for just over a year now, she had mites when I got her im sure. She would stamp and scratch all the time but she also has allergies.
Her feathers are always clipped off. She had 2 injections from vets and with scrubbing and putting pig oil on she is a lot better.
She still itches at times but it could also be down to the allergies too.
Can you get the jab from vets? Pig oil is also great

Dectomax (2 jabs a fortnight apart) worked last year for my hairy cob and have just had her first jab again this year.

I also wash her feathers with either Alphosyl or Nizoral, from the supermarket.

Thanks everyone the vet can't come til the 28th but hopefully that will help

Will try tomorrow to clip her and at least spray some stuff on if she won't let me wash her

Well we tried pony nuts and granny distracted her with those whilst I shampooed and dh held her. To begin with she wasn't happy but then the warm water and massage didn't seem so bad.... trimming was a definite no, sedation required for that I think!

Hopefully the injection from the vet will help and I'll ask for a sedation prescription so I can trim and for use with farrier.

Do they give you more than one? Or is it prescription every time?

All in all, not too bad! She's now very full and away in a huff
