What’s your budget? You can have them built pretty cheaply, they can be v simple construction. The wooden stables sold are usually rubbish quality materials and massive mark up, and you usually have the prepare the base yourself in advance. We had some built by a local handyman/builder for £2k (day rate for him and the cost of materials), having been quoted £7k by a local stable company.

You can have them built cheaply but you will likely need planning permission. You may even need change of use
A friend of mine was not able to build stables on agricultural land as equestrian buildings are not agricultural in the eyes of the planning office!

Field shelter - mobile ones do not need planning in virtually all cases. However they do have to be mobile and not have a base - get one on skids and move it regularly. Stick some boarding across the front at stable door height, put in a lower half stable door with a couple of bolts and hey presto - I've got one in my field and its brilliant. The floor is obviously just earth but it beds up well with shavings when I want to use it as a stable and the ventilation is obviously excellent.

lastqueenofscotland is correct. If the land is designated as Agricultural, then technically you aren't even allowed to do anything other than graze horses on it. This also means that you aren't meant to feed hard feed to said horses or exercise them in the field either. In practice this is rarely enforced, but it could be.
We had a triple field shelter on skids built,as out planning department are notoriously difficult. It is 36ft X 12ft,and can be gated off into various configurations. It has made life so much easier, the front gates are left open so the horses can come and go as they please, and the ventilation has done wonders for our asthmatic horse. It cost just under £5k from hunter stables.

Mobile field shelter or stables don't need planning at least not with Chart and Prime stables.

We had two stables, seperate storage / tack room with all accessories and extras plus delivery / installation for £5000. Might off the top and to fork out upfront seem expensive but when you compare the price to a year's worth of DIY livery for two horses it's well worth it.
