Jockey Skull causing headaches

Can anyone advise? It’s a Champion brand one. It’s been fitted and feels fine for the first half hour. But I get a headache sort of over my right temple. The previous hat did it too, also champion. It’s otherwise comfortable and not super tight. Tight enough to stay in place without the strap (obviously I always do it up), it’s not compressing my head though. I feel like I should try another brand. Would much prefer another jockey skull if at all possible: I only really hack so I like a high viz cover and we get plastered in mud (rather keen on a gallop and not always out front) so cover needs washing!

I think some brands definitely don't suit some headshapes- I have never really got a champion hat to fit me properly. My current hat is a Charles Owen Jockey Skull and is very comfortable.

It's really tricky at the moment but hopefully in a few months you'll be able to go to a tack shop and try on a range of brands?

Thanks. Local tack shop said they’ll do fittings once the riding schools open in a few weeks. Interesting you say Charles Owen fit differently: will look at those.

I have an oval head and Charles Owen fit me brilliantly, a champion Harbin the same size gives me a headache and puts a red line across my forehead. My friend has the opposite problem. Definately worth trying other brands, I tried lots and ended up with a "kids own" complete with happy meal style stable box so not an expensive one but I can wear it for hours and hours.

*hat not Harbin, whatever that is, lol

I’m another ‘Charles Owen’ head person. I’ve tried all sorts of brands, ranging in price, and still go back to Charles Owen.
Love the look of their new Halo hat

Woah! £445 for a riding hat.

Blimey. I will check out their skulls though. Thank you.

Try cutting label out, I found that helped.

They do all fit different head shapes if champion doesn’t work for you id have a look at the gatehouse HS1 or Charles Owen. JS1/ Pro II or if you want to feel super safe they do the APM but it think that’s a fair bit pricier

Charles Owen come in two different shapes, a round one and a more oval head shape.
