Spavin and insurance claim

Sorry to post about this again! I just have a quick question. My horse has arthritis in his hocks, I claimed on the insurance for it last year as he was lame and had nerve blocks etc.

It’s now looking likely he has it in his knees too, now I assumed it would be exempt from the insurance. The insurance states “excluding claims resulting from, or connected to spavin.” I always thought spavin was another name for djd/arthritis, but google tells me it’s connected to the hock. And I assumed arthritis in his knee would be carpal spavin? I’ve have nearly enough saved for his treatment, but that’s only if it is his knees! We’re going straight for xray and medicating if it is. Ideally I’d like nerve blocking done to locate where the issue is with him, but I just can’t stretch to that Sad

Sorry if that doesn’t make sense, I’m just trying to find a loop hole!

Our insurance will exclude hock arthritis from next year but it specifically says ‘hock arthritis’. Have you called your insurance company or your vet and asked for clarification?

My insurance says it excludes the hock, and then says it excludes spavin. My vet called them today, but I’m not sure what the outcome is yet as I was at work and didn’t have chance to call them back.

Who are you insured with?

We’re with the Insurance Emporium - historically they’ve not had the best reputation but they’ve been fine with us during the last hellish 8 months with dhorse. They’ve paid up promptly, it’s been very easy to claim and the renewal premium didn’t shoot up despite the thousands of pounds worth of claims.

As the definition of spavin is a problem with the hock o would be cautiously optimistic that the rest of him is still covered 🤞🏻
