ODE gear?

My DD is doing her first ODE next weekend.

She has XC colours & Navy/bling SJ gear but not too sure what to wear for the dressage?

She has a Tweed show jacket & she also has a black/bling SJ jacket. What is the norm for the dressage part?

What is bling for? Is she a pony club member?

Fireinthegrate · 04/08/2019 18:05

I think she should wear a plain black jacket for the dressage.

Save the blingy stuff for BS!

PC don’t tend to like bling we found

WillowKnicks · 04/08/2019 18:10

It's not pony club.

Fireinthegrate ha ha yes, we've found that out in the past too!

What is it if not PC? RC? Either way, bling is just... weird. Tweed or if you must blue or black jacket is fine for dressage and SJ. With a tie for juniors. Stock only really appropriate for 16+ IMO but I'm a traditionalist.

Bling is just... Hmm

Tweed generally but no one will bat an eye on black/navy

Most important is no peak hat xc, bp (both up to current standard) and medical band.

Thanks, think we'll go for the tweed for the dressage bit then & stick to her looking 'weird' as usual, in the SJ HmmGrin

Tweed for dressage and showjumping phases is correct unless at a high level. If this is unaffiliated/PC/RC or BE up to Novice wear tweed.

Plus wearing the same for two phases cuts down on washing/packing space.

IME at local events most people stick to tweed for dressage and SJ then change to XC colours for the fun part, but really at local level anything goes, black, navy, green, whatever. You may find depending on times you're not given a huge amount of time in between dressage and SJ (remember it's in that order for an ODE, SJ only comes after XC on a three day event), bearing in mind she'll want to warm up for the jumping and pop a few practice fences before going in, so ideally you don't want to have to dash back to lorry and change in between (lorry park may also be a long way from arenas). If she prefers the black then I'd wear that for both the first 2 phases - although I suppose if she wants to swap jackets only, you could just carry the 2nd one with you. If she's a junior then a tie is more correct than a stock, and most eventers are not 'bling' people but again I doubt it matters too much so long as she has all her safety gear in order and she has the right kit for the pony (are you taking studs?)...
