Electric cars - anyone else had a problem?

DD’s pony is usually absolutely brilliant in traffic - our yard is on a narrow lane and she doesn’t flinch when cars/lorries/motorbikes force their way past her without slowing down. We have bridleways all around us but DD has to ride a short distance on the lane to get to them.
Someone on the lane has acquired an electric car (doesn’t help that he drives it like a pillock). She’s met it several times and spooked a bit each time - nothing serious until last night when DD was coming back from a hack.
He did his usual trick of passing too fast and too close and pony took off back to the yard
A few friends have said their horses, who are normally fine in traffic, have had issues with the electric cars - mainly because they’re silent and just appear out of nowhere.
Anyone else have an issue? Any tips on how to get over it?

My friend drives an electric car and has said people don’t know he’s behind them when on bikes and infact had to turn the music up when following a deer down the road as it refused to move.. likewise people are always stepping out in front of my hybrid in car parks because I sneak up on them...
I’ve not met any electric cars out riding yet but I can’t help but think it’s partly the driving like a prat that’s the problem if he sat behind you for a minute then you’d hear the road noise (or the music) but perhaps with the rise of them it’s something we need to make them aware of..

I have had this problem especially when I was exiting a bridleway onto a road on a blind corner scared the shit out of both of us.

I'm sure it's bee on the news in the last couple of days that they're going to be fitted with some sort of 'noise makers' to help alleviate the problem. I walked into one when it was reversing around a building (at home, not on the road).
