I've tried all sorts, but only find a spray with Deet works.

Ditto the above. Phaser is the only one I've found that is reasonably effective, but it is still useless against horse-flies.

I would be careful with anything with Deet coming into contact with a saddle as it can rot the leather. We use a combination of Nettex Freedom and Avon So Soft. It helps but they seem to be very bad this year!
