Fat Fell and cub saddle?

Can you give me your thoughts? The title says it all really - my (small) just turned 3 year old has claimed ownership of my 13.2 Fell Grin, and wants to ride (OK - sit on!) him a bit more.

Said pony is quite slight by Fell standards, but still a fairly chunky pony. My DD has sat on him bareback, but I'd rather she has the security of saddle and stirrups, even just being led round the school, as she does look a bit like a pea on a drum she could do with something to hang onto.

Would a cub saddle be worth it? The ones I've looked at all seem to be for Shetlands / Welsh A's etc, so I worry that it would be too narrow and pinch-ey for the pony, so I'm wondering whether a grab-strap and a fluffy saddle-saver would be a better option for grip.

What have others done?

Heather Moffett's just brought out something called the Pad-dle, which is a cross between a pony pad and a treeless saddle, for wide ponies and cobs. There's also a Pad-dle Extra, which will have supports front and rear for very small children.
