If we liked Hickstead

3 years ago we went to Hickstead in June as DD wanted to see a proper horse trial. Even as non-horsey parents we really enjoyed it,

Unfortunately it now seems that for the next year running we can’t do the June trials. I looked what else is available and wonder if any of you can recommend the other Hickstead events? An alternative would be Blenheim in September but with a 2 hour drive it really stretches what we would do just for one day. We live in London but with so close to christmas and DD only out of school the .Friday before I am reluctant to do the Olympia one.

I need to make my mind up as the Olympia tickets go up for sale and if we go there I need to book fast.

No interest in dressage, either jumping or cross country.

Blenheim is horse trials - cross country, dressage and show jumping. Hickstead is show jumping, so look for show jumping events in your area, as opposed to horse trials. There are loads of shows out there.

The RIHS at hickstead in July is good. County shows tend to have a fair bit of showjumping too

Badminton - just go on the Saturday for the xc, it's an amazing day out

There are horse trials twice a year at the show ground in ardingly

Burghley in September is fantastic.

Badminton and Burghley are too far away. County shows are DH's pet hate, no way.

Ardingly - would work distance wise.

Blenheim - as Saturday and Sunday is jumping and Cross country I would say it is suitable, even if it is called a horse trial. I think DD would like the whole atmosphere of it.

Thanks everyone.

I did Burghley with my daughter last year and we live in South London. Two hour drive each way and she loved it.

There’s a Global Champions Tour show in London 2-4 August. That will have some of the words top show jumpers competing.
