Hi!!
Recently switched my horse onto haylage, he's 16'3 Sports horse. He's currently getting 7.5kg a night. Does that sound about right? Some times had a tiny bit other nights nothing

Doesn’t sound like enough?
Is horse fat? How long in for?

My 14.2hh has about 9-10kg overnight (4pm-7am), she weighs about 550kg ours is low sugar, high fibre meadow haylage, not ryegrass and she’s on poir grass by day.

If hatlage is very wet you need more compared to sry weight hay too. I can barely lift my night net

He's abit fat, in light work, still got grass on the field and has a feed at night.

Is the haylage dry or wet? If wet, you'll need to feed more as the weight will be affected by water...

Think the rule of feeding is 2% of bodyweight over 24 hours (or 1.5% for weight loss)

So for example, my mare, 600 kilo approx, 2% of 600 is 12kilo ... She's out 7am - 3pm on crappy grass so she gets at night, approx 8kilo (our haylage is quite dry) and a tub trug of chopped straw (zero calories!)

@OldSpeclkledHen straw?? That a good idea!

@OldSpeclkledHen forgot to add our haylage is very dry. I've given 9kg this evening.
