Riders' insurance, so many questions!!

I'm aware of BHS, but is there any where else I should look?

Is it a necessity? What would happen if we had an accident but had no insurance? Are there different types of cover? I ride my friend's horse out hacking, mainly bridleways but we do need to navigate a few roads to get on and off them. Would normal vet insurance cover an accident regardless of who was riding, or do I need to be the horse equivalent of a named driver?!

Fanks 😊

I think it’s to cover third party liability if you cause an accident.

Eg if pony spoils and collides with a car causing damage to the car and driver then they can persue you for costs which could be astronomical.
