Help - rapid breathing - asthma

Hi, over the last 3 weeks my daughters horse has suddenly developed an allergy that caused her to be doing 60 nostril flaring shallows breaths per min. Weve had her scoped, steriods, inhalers and antibiotics and nothing is helping. Ive moved yards to see if that would help. We are devasted but im starting to wonder if this is the end. I feel so bad for her. The vet just told be to watch out for her looking less bright but shes eating and drinking and seems bright, shes just struggling to cool herself due to the heat. What does your vet advise? Have they spoken to you about realistic options?

I spoke to the vet again last night. He tginks it would be a bit drastic to put her to sleep just yet. Hes given her til weds to see if it improves then shes going in for a second scope and an xray. Its awful seeing her like this. Im havinf to be at the yard 3 times a day to cool her off as she cant control her body temp as shes not taking enough air. The vet has said hes seen this before just not go on for this long xx

This sounds weird, I know, but there's a horse with asthma at our yard and we gave her Piriton syrup during the summer months (the vet's advice). Is that worth trying? She's on an inhaler these days but I think it worked.

We have a pony with asthma, probably not as severe as yours sounds but she has clenbuterol (ventipulmin?) sometimes and there is a kind of nebuliser type thing - I guess your vet would already be doing that if it would help also some madly expensive bespoke supplement (vet recommended) and shavings and haylage instead of straw and hay. She’s also allergic to loads of things but it’s more manageable than I’m making it sound, I hope you find something that helps xxx

Thankyou, shes on the inhaler and ventipulmin. The vet dud mention the haygain nebuliser but its £700!!, at the minute i just cant afford it. Im just waiting now to see what tjey say on weds xx

Sadly sophie had to be pts this morning. Xrays revealed she had lung tumours. We are heartbroken, she really was a super pony xx
