Pony with IBD

My pony became very unwell last week and we nearly lost her. She's been diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease and is responding well to steroid treatment.

Her symptoms were rapid weight loss, not eating and swelling to her face. Bloods showed very low protein levels.

I just wondered if anyone has experience of this? I've been advised to feed cereal and sugar free, fibre rich feed so any advice would be appreciated.

Never heard of IBD and have no experience of it, however ours was diagnosed with ulcers last year.
We feed Agrobs mash, linseed, Speedibeet and Equinox supplement (available on-line only) plus ad-lib meadow hay. I also add Fenugreek powder as that helps fussy eaters and is a natural analgesic. No soya, no alfalfa, no cereal and very low sugar diet. Totally forage based. Pony is very healthy, good weight with energy and a gleaming coat and no recurrent issues at all. Hope that helps.

I can't I know anything about IBD but one of mine had suspected ulcers or the begins of. I put him on Equinox and it was marvelous! Good value too if you buy the big tub.

He doesn't really need it anymore so I now have both of mine on Keyflow Pink Mash and molasses free chaff. One has had a touch of laminitus so only has a little of both. The one who had suspected ulcers is an extemely fussy but has been great on it.
