I can't get another horse, can I?

I know I can't.......but but but.......

My boy is oldish but due to lots of old injuries (pre my ownership) means he has come to a point that it's very very light hacking and a wee bit of school work. and as such lack motivation to ride now.

I yearn to enjoy riding again, popping a jump or two. Do sponsored rides, maybe a couple of local shows dressage, jumping. Y know have fun.

My boy is fit and healthy and happy just can't do much anymore, I still love him to bits.

A horse has come up on fb that looks perfect and is handsome. My fingers are twitching to message the owner for more information.

But The yard I am at is full, also I can't afford another. But I keep trying to thinking of ways to find/make/get money knocked off my liverly.

I have to stop, don't I?

DH just looked over my shoulder briefly, read the post, and said we can't afford it.

I know we can't, but if I could find a way......

I know you lot will understand, and if it keeps me from FB the better.

Part loan. Wish you lived my way - I have a feisty mare needing to get out competing now that DD is at Uni. I'll hack her in summer but I'm an OAP now and have absolutely no desire to compete and/or jump!

Put an ad on FB looking for something to part-loan. If you're committed and competent you will get your hand bitten off, and it shouldn't cost you much (if anything). The part loaner I have for the other one mucks out and pays for own lessons/competition entry fees but I am so grateful to have found someone lovely and a good rider that it's enough!

Make sure you check the Preloved website for part loans!

TwatFacedBitch · 27/02/2018 17:51

Ahh thanks Smile

I've been looking on and off for part loan, but the few that come up are just never right, either size, or amount of money or commitment, becuase mines on DIY and I work it's difficult if the part loan is 10 miles the other way and want a weekend day covered aswell Sad I'll keep looking though.

I see loads of horses on FB and some look great but this one has really caught my eye, I'd be there tomorrow to try him out and bring him home if I thought I could! It's a good job the my yards full, as it's one of those times my heart would override my head!

Rather where abouts are you?

I've got two, and thinking about getting a third...

Iwouldratherbemuckingout · 27/02/2018 19:11

Don’t look to me for help. I got a youngster in November - am up to 3! Definitely heart rules head and I just don’t care.

TwatFacedBitch · 27/02/2018 19:14

Ha marty its hard isnt it! In my previous life we rented 12 acres and it was so easy to add just one more BlushGrin

How did you end up with 3 since November?

One to ride. The next one to keep the second one company. The third to keep the second one company when you ride.

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 28/02/2018 12:59

Am also in the "how did I end up with all these horses" camp. But you can always squeeze one more in!

How about looking for a (good, well run, fairly local and visitable) retirement livery for your old chap to enjoy some quiet time, while costing less to keep and giving you more time to devote to a new riding horse.

TwatFacedBitch · 28/02/2018 16:46

Retirement livery cost more than my diy round here, plus I'm not sure I could either Sad

Yea, same here - that's a shame. Two on DIY it is then ;)

QuestionableMouse · 28/03/2018 16:49

Consider a sharer for your old man. Many people are looking for a quiet safe horse to hack out.

CatchIt · 29/03/2018 14:12

If your old boy is good for hacking and light work, get a sharer.

I suppose I shouldn't tell you what my yard owner says then? Just buy the damn horse
