My friend has loaned my daughter her pony. She's 14.2 cob cros but has very highly withers on no top line. We had an issue with colic/grass/weight when she first came, turned out she had an infection. All is well now and my daughters riding her and she slowly gaining weight, just hoping to build more top line. I just wanted your thoughts on me riding her just a slow hack. I'm 5ft6 and 10 stone ?. My daughter is only 10 and very slight so it a big difference lol xx

I would have though 10 stone would be fine for her to carry. Especially just for gentle hacking. Perhaps get a bit more condition on her first if you're concerned about it? (I know you said that you are anyway though

She looks a lovely, gentle soul. Have fun with her. :)

Don't feel guilty. See how she goes and take it from there. I think you'll be fine though.:)

She should be fine. Are you a balanced rider? A heavier, balanced rider is easier on a horse's back than a lighter, poorly balanced rider. Also it will help her if you get her to work from behind, engage the back and round her back when carrying you (easier for her to carry you at that moment and helps her build top line over time) rather than letting her plod on a long rein.
