Fallen off - advice

I took a tumble on Thursday (well, decided to exit & threw myself off - not my brightest move).

I landed on my back & so paramedic was called. Was able to stand, checked over & he was happy to let me go (thank goodness).

So have been hobbling around, carrying on as usual. I ache, but not that much, but a large area of my upper arse is still completely numb. Can't feel it at all. It burns & itches a bit.

Is this from taking a good slapping & due to bruising or should I get checked out? (I have an aversion to A&E unless I'm in so much pain I can't breathe - and I don't feel too bad. Just numb with a bit of pain in certain positions)

Any numb arse stories after falling appreciated!

a friend of mine fell off her horse. Got back on. Went home complaining of backache numb bum. Her dp took her to ooh. She had broken her back.

i fell off. like you did. went home. ached like a bastard the next day. was fine.

You need to get checked. It could be inflammation and the fact its now itchy is good i think but still i think best err on the side of caution.

Yeah the aching is what I'd expect - it's the numbness that's making me think maybe I should be sensible. I broke a finger last year, ignored it & have no end of problems with it still.

It's more completely numb than itchy iykwim. Remind me not to bail next time

I would definitely get an X-ray and further medical advice. I have broken things and ignored them and got into bother before now.

Btw first thing they will do is test the reflexes on the sole of your feet and sensation on your upper thighs. How do they all feel at the moment?

I fell off a horse when I was about 13, landed on my back/bum. Wasn't checked out, could just about stand and was super dizzy but sent home. Parents didn't bother to take it any further.
Went to a pregnancy massage this summer so 13 years later, the therapist could actually feel the scar tissue at the bottom of my back and asked me if I'd ever fallen off a horse! Caused me a hell of a lot of pain during late pregnancy and first few months after birth. Definitely get it checked out.

I didn't know I had broken vertebrae until 15 years later when I had an X-ray for something else!! If you treat things at the time it is a lot easier to get good outcomes.

Legs & feet are all fine - It's quite a defined large numb patch on my backside next to the painful bits. DH has prodded it & says there's a noticeable line that defines the numbness (him prodding, me saying numb/ouch/ fine) I thought it was just from the slapping on the ground, but it hasn't really changed in 2 days.

Yeah boffin I found that with my finger - found out I'd broken it 6 months later & it still gives me problems now

I really think you should get that checked out.
My friend hurt her back on a roller coaster (it went over a bump and she landed on her tail bone in the seat) she thought she had bruises her coccyx until her leg went numb. She got checked out and has slipped a disc which is pressing on her spinal cord.
Please get this seen to.

Going to drop ds1 at respite, then DH will drop me at A&E. Will let you know the verdict! Hopefully it's just a slapped arse!!

I've landed on back/bum on v. hard ground a couple of times, and had this. Because I could stand, walk etc I thought no more of, just put it down to expected soreness, bruising etc. It did settle eventually but if in doubt get checked out.

Glad to see you are getting it checked out. I hope it is all OK, but definitely a good idea to check.

Just a shocked sciatic nerve! They said it might be numb for a few weeks - so I'm glad I got checked out otherwise I would have been panicking after a week!

Good I can go riding again next week

Might be helpful to get some chiropractic to help the healing process.

I wish I could but no chance at the moment unfortunately.

I had numbness there after giving birth. It did go away. It's probably due to inflammation so I would definitely get it check out.

Numbness can be a symptom of cauda equina. Very serious.
