First Frankel yearlings at the sale

It's that time of year in the racing industry when the annual yearling sales are underway. This year is extra special as the first yearlings by Frankel are being offered.

Only a select number of the 126 foals born are being offered for sale, conceived at a fee of £125,000.

So far two sales have taken place in France and the USA with 6 sold in France for an average of €566,666 and 2 sold in the USA for an average of $650,000.

The Orby Sale is underway in Ireland and the moment with 2 sold yesterday, including the current sale topper at €1,700,000. 2 more go under the hammer today and next week 18 will be offered at the premier Book One Sale in Newmarket.

Exciting times!

Did you see C4 Morning Line programme recently - it's on Catch Up if you didn't - fab piece on Frankel and his associates at Banstead?

It will be interesting to see whether they fetch crazy prices or if buyers are more cautious.

I did see it, it was very good and gave people an opportunity to see what life is like on a stud.

I think the good yearlings will make decent money and the bad ones won't. Yearling buyers are pretty risk averse so they won't buy a poor individual just because it's a Frankel.

That said I'm hoping the colt out of multiple G1 winner Dar Re Mi sells well next week!

Yes very exciting and of course the yearling market will only fuel the prices for his foals later on. Just a shame that Lady Cecil is retiring before she gets to train one..
