Horses post c section

Hi!

I'm exoecting no2. This time I'm likely to have an elective section.

To those who've had a section (or known someone who has) what is the recovery likely to be? Just trying to plan how long to have the horse on full livery for? Mainly to save? I was thinking saving for 10 weeks livery but starting to get back up there after a few weeks if hubby will take me? Guess it's mainly mucking out?

Last time (post birth -forceps) I was back in 10 days doing full care.

I might have natural birth, it's very up in the air, but it might also be elective. I just want to save as much money as we can for the worst case scenario. If that makes sense. Due around xmas to make matters more complex!!

It's 5yrs since my cs but as far as I recall, it would have been 8 weeks at least till I could muck out and about 11 weeks till I rode again. Having said that, I did too much, too soon around the house and set my own recovery back a week or two by being stupid. 6 might be realistic. When they say do nothing for 2 weeks, they mean it. Best of luckSmile

With my first c section I was an idiot and persuaded my husband to take me to yard 4 days after and then attempted to muck out! I was soon told to out down the fork.
With second I was more sensible but again I was persuading people to drive me up to the yard to see the horses (baby/toddler came too)
I will admit I was driving after 3 weeks with both sections and back bringing in/turning out at 3 weeks, mucking out probably at 4 weeks.
I rode the evening after my 6 week check up after first section, just walk with a tiny little trot. Second I left it a little longer as had more stitches.

I realise this makes me sound like a crazy person but honestly I was fine, but the fact horses are just on a tiny yard we rent alone means I kind of had to get up and going again ASAP.

I rode 6 weeks after my section, went hunting a week later and skiing a week after that. There were no complications or infections. You'll be fine! :)

I rode 6 weeks after both my CSs but I took it very slowly. Lifting weights was more difficult for me so I didn't muck out till later.
