How best to sell a saddle

Hi, DHorse is no longer rideable and keeping two saddles seems a bit pointless. I am hoping to sell his dressage saddle, but don't really know how to go about it.

Wher do you sell second hand saddles, or, if you have bought them, where do you look?

Sorry if this sounds really stupid, but it's not something I've really thought about before. Both horses I have owned have come with tack, or, as is the case with this dressage saddle, we bought it by separate arrangement from his old owner.

Thanks for any advice you may have

have you tried facebook? in our area there are lots of local tack selling pages. some tack shops also sell second hand saddles so might be worth asking there too.

Depends on how quick you need to sell and its age/condition and brand.

I usually give mine to a local saddler to sell on commission which generally takes a while but I get a good price. A popular brand such as the wintec or thoroughgood will sell very quickly on preloved or similar. There are lots of Facebook pages you can try as the previous poster mentioned. Or you can send to saddles direct to sell for you.

Depends how old it is. Saddles Direct told me they don't take anything over 10 years old. Since I've always been led to believe that a good quality saddle, if looked after, will last a life time I was a bit Hmm at that!

Thanks everyone. It is an 'Ideal' saddle, but I have no idea about it' age. I know it was bought secondhand for my horse, by his previous wonder, so would assume it is more than 10yo. It feels very solid and has no apparent damage. It has always (and I knew it in previous owners care) been stores on a single rack in a dry tack room and cleaned (realistically frequently).

I'll have a look at local FB pages and see what the possibilities are.

I've sold saddles on ebay for quite good money they have generally been bought by tack shops who are happy to send a courier to collect them so no postage costs for me .

Out of interest Wink
What size/colour/fit is it?

Plomino · 19/03/2015 20:44

I sold my ideal h and c saddle which was the best part of 25 years old ( but immaculately looked after ) for £300 on preloved last summer . I could have sold it several times over .

Moanranger · 23/03/2015 00:17

I use ebay

Equimum · 13/04/2015 09:20

Thanks, will give ebay a go then.

Bonkey, it's dark brown, 17.5inch and medium fit.
