We're on holiday in the area and want to watch the racehorses riding out in the morning but can't find out the best place to do this and what time. If anyone could help that would be great!

Warren Hill at around 7.30am. If you drive up the road out of town (Moulton Road I think) you can park near the top of the hill and walk over to the all weather canters. You have to be about 20 metres from the rails though

I live in Newmarket and as the others say the best time is from dawn until about 9.30am with peak time between 7 and 8 at the moment - it gets earlier as the days get longer.

If you park near the BP garage at the bottom of the Bury Road (nr Clock Tower) you can see the horses warming up by walking and trotting on the severals (other side of road from garage).

Then drive up the Moulton Road - which is reached by turning off clock town towards Cheveley and then immediately left at Horseshoes pub to Moulton. Park in the car park on the left at the top of the hill. You'll see the two 4 furlong polytrack canters in front of you on Warren Hill and behind you you'll see the turf canter and the 7 furlong Polytrack canter up Long Hill...

Plenty of other places to go but they are the easiest and busiest.

Also pop into the Racing Museum on the High Street - much more detailed than you'd imagine from outside - and also do a tour of the National Stud (just off the roundabout with the rearing horse on the London/Cambridge side of town).

Glad you had a good time Catnip. I regularly take DD during school holidays down to the Museum so she can go on the Equicizer ! Being a local I've become a Friend which means for 15 quid we can go whenever we like..

Yes we met John Snaith in the museum and the girls had a go on Legless. It was so interesting listening to him talk about his life.
