Which boots?

What boots would you recommend for walking around the yard, and staying warm watching DD ride?

I'm not riding myself, but don't want to freeze during the lessons. I guess I'm looking for decent wellies.

I have a knee high pair of Gumleaf wellies which I wear with wellie socks over my jeans.

I don't ride but my DD does and it's freezing at the yard! I'm currently eyeing up a pair of Kanyon yard boots, so watching this thread to see if anyone recommends yard boots over wellies

Most wellies are useless unless you wear them with welly socks. For working in the yard muck boots are brill. They're ugly as hell but much warmer and more comfortable than wellies.

I've got some hideously ugly snow boots (they were the cheapest!) that look a bit like muckers but have thermal linings. I don't wear them when it's very muddy as they would soon be ruined but they are lovely and toasty for freezing weather or standing around waiting for the farrier. My feet have never got cold in them no matter how long I've been out.

Years ago I had some Derri boots which were fantastically warm. I'll probably get some more of those next time I'm looking for warm boots as they were easier to clean than the ones I've got now. They didn't last as long because I lived in them in the winter!

Oh I've just read the reviews that say they aren't very hard-wearing, shame as I loved them, they were so comfy. There are some Dunlop fleece-lined wellies if you scroll down though, they might be worth a look.

So will muck boots last 4 times longer than a cheap pair of wellies and a pair of wellie socks?
At £80+ a pair, it's quite an investment (I'm ignoring other brands which do £200+ pairs).

Cheap wellies are rarely a good investment. We normally buy Le Chameaus which are expensive so a couple of years ago DW decided to go back to Hunters but they were a disaster and didn't last a year. For us its about the length of time they last and the comfort they give us. We've never used Muck boots (preferring wellies or riding boots) but they have always been well recommended on here.

Not a huge fan of Muckboots here - the grip went very quickly so I spent a lot of time slithering about, and then the neoprene came away from the rubber and whilst they were still wearable weren't 100% waterproof. I'm currently on some Aigle wellies which look similar to Hunters but have so far worn much better.

The trick if you're using rubber ones is to hose them down, particularly if they come into regular contact with horse wee......

I love my Aigle wellies, they've been brilliant. Long-lasting and so comfy. I've got mine a bit big so I can wear an extra pair of thick socks.

Neoprene Le chameau. Not cheap to buy but mine are now 14 years old and still going strong and keep my toes lovely and warm. Just bought DH a pair for his birthday and he is well impressed.
