Just sold dpony. Being right isn't easy is it?

So, the dc have been losing interest - still happy to do the basics but no interest in riding or spending time. I realised I was keeping the ponies for me not them so we had the talk

24 hrs later and dpony is sold to the lovely dc who had him on loan.

Ds is sad but philosophical. I am gutted. I just want to cry. Dpony was one of a kind (which is why the loan home were still asking to buy him back 6 months later)

Now it's dmare - the one I said I'd never sell. But she's no good for me and dd checked out months ago. She needs more than us. She loves activity and action, she's only young. I'm heartbroken. How do you be strong and do the right thing?

We sold minipony in the summer for the same reasons. She is doing great, really happy and we get updates all the time. I still feel like I've sold her out.

Really sorry to hear your having to sell your ponies- but it sounds like you have found them fantastic homes!

I sold my first horse who I had owned for 10 years a couple of years ago. He terrified me to ride and was wasting away as a field ornament. It broke my heart at the time but he now has a lovely brave rider and is out competing and I now have my very own bombproof show pony so it worked out okay.

I think sometimes our needs change but as long as the horse has a great home with someone who loves it that's the main thing!

There is no 'right thing' , you do what is right for you - I've never sold a horse or pony ,my choice ,which is why I have a 22 yr old dartmoor pony on full livery who we purchased when my now 22 yr old DS was 6 - she has been retired since she was 8 when both my dc decided ponies weren't for them after all . She will be the 5th equine that we have owned - I'm just pleased my dc gave up otherwise I could be funding an entire herd ! Good luck whatever you decide.

I'm in the middle of giving up right now. Our 2 youngsters have been sold, the old sec a is up for loan and the big Shetland is going to a friend for a couple of years.
like you I was keeping hold of them for sentimental reasons.
DD wasn't interested in them any more but didn't want to let them go.
We decided that we weren't being fair. The youngsters were ready to back and have a lovely life making small people happy, and both the old mares just love to work and be pampered. They weren't getting attention, they weren't getting worked and they were just festering in a field.
So we took the plunge. And tbh when we waved the youngsters off it was like a millstone was taken from round my neck! and the pictures from their new owner are really heart warming. They already have little people who love them.
Let them go and remember that you are doing the right thing. x

Just sold my beloved boy because he's a handful and I'm pregnant with no one to help. It's been a tough decision but now it's finally made I feel relieved. I love him but he's in a great home and I know I did the right thing.

I'd like to sell DD's pony but she won't let me. DS's pony is just fabulous and even when DS is too big for him he will be with us forever. I sold my Big Horse and saw him this month for the first time in nearly 5 years. I was devastated when I sold him, but seeing him again I realised I had done the right thing. It's sad to have to sell one, but usually it works out for the best.
