Do you wear different boots for yard duties / riding?

Well my lovely expensive leather Ariat boots are ruined after just two years (I only ride once per week) as I wear them to catch / turn out as well as for riding.

I have decided to invest in two pairs of boots - some good wellies for going to the swamp field and some separate riding boots. Is this what most people do?

I do yes. I'm faffing about with my hat/back protector/hi-viz etc anyway, it's only a few extra seconds to slip into my jodh boots.

My issue is not the time it takes to change boots, more the amount of stuff I already have to carry.

The car park at my horse's yard is a little way from the yard itself. Each horse has its own space at the yard where the owners' can store their kit. However I am only a sharer not an owner and my horse's space is already full with the owner's kit, so there is no room for my kit. It's fair enough really as the spaces are not big enough for more than one person's kit, plus I prefer to take my kit home with me as I don't want anything to go missing / get 'borrowed'. As I only ride once per week I am not at the yard enough to keep an eye on my things.

Anyway this means that I have to walk from the car park to the yard carrying 3x buckets (for picking hooves into, clean water and hibiscrub etc), sponges, grooming kit, body protector, helmet, high viz jacket, whip, gloves, stirrups (I don't get on with the owner's stirrups so bring my own) etc. So now I have to carry extra boots too!

I have to take my tack etc with me too, but the tying-up spot is near the gate (no yard, just a field and shelter) so I leave the tack in the car out in the road until I need it. When I go out to fetch the tack I change my boots and then I put it all away and change back into my wellies while dhorse is having his feed. My wellies live in the car boot in a plastic bag so that's one less thing to struggle out of the house with! I can't actually park near my house either which makes it even more of a pain. I've just asked for one of those saddle carrying bags (with shoulder strap) for Christmas which will hopefully make it a bit easier to juggle all my stuff and not keep dropping my keys which is what I normally do.
When you arrive at the yard could you quickly fetch a wheelbarrow to move all your stuff from the car? Or treat yourself to one of those cute garden trollies and stash it somewhere near the car park? Or if you have a big enough car boot and the ground is flat take something like this with you? I have to get up a steep, stoney slope to the gate so it's easier for me to just carry things but then I don't have to take buckets etc with me every time as we do have a small shed for feed bins.

Wellies for mud, Ariats for yard duties and riding, Konig for competitions. Pre DCs when I used to ride everyday the Ariats lasted me for two years. The Konigs were a wedding present nearle 10 years ago and still look super. Everything gets cleaned and conditioned very frequently though.

Muck boots for the yard and field. Riding boots in the tack room. In summer joddy for yard and riding.

Can you not just get a cheap pair of wellies to leave at the yard for turning out? It wouldn't matter so much then that you aren't able to keep an eye on them, and they don't take up much space.

I change boots for riding/stable jobs in winter as the field is so muddy my riding boots would not cope. I just wear my riding boots all the time once the ground have dried up, probably April to September.
It is a faff in the winter, but I just accept that it is what happens.

Cheap wellies for yard and field, nice boots for riding :) might wear nice boots on yard in summer when less likely to get wrecked but otherwise I'm a wellies gal!

Wellies for deep mud, old Ariats for intermediate mud, new Ariats for riding and concrete (horses at home so selection in the porch)

Another one who has wellies, muck boots and riding boots. I have found my riding boots last much, much longer if I don't wear them for yard duties or in deep mud.

We were welllies for mucking out, turning out etc. We wear Ariat jod boots with long socks or half chaps for riding. That way we get the best of both worlds and we don't knacker the expensive Ariats.

This thread makes me feel lazy...

Nope can't be doing with all the faff of changing boots! I'm a freelance groom working with hunt horses and I have dogs as well so I ride in mine plus bath horses, muck out stables, walk dogs etc. I spend 9 hours a day in my boots. ATM I have ariat grasmeres. Soo comfy! I did have toggi calgary ones last season (£80 to ariat £250) but they died after 6 months.
