Mobile field shelter?

Anyone have an opinion on them?
Pros, can move them into different parts of the field when dividing it with electric fence.
Cons, was thinking of having a larger fenced concrete area for grooming etc outside the field shelter/stable, which I wouldn't be able to do with a mobile one.

i think they are actually not really that mobile, but on skids to stay in planning loopholes. you will def need planning for a concrete apron so something to consider depending on how arsey/helpful your council are.

Not good in exposed areas, mine blew away and smashed to pieces even though it was pinned down!

Ours is fantastic - a double Redmire Hunter, now about 6 years old. I think it is about 22' x 10' with a divider and two openings.

Easy to move around with our Defender towing it. Can't see it being blown over to be honest. We have five bar gates on it and boarded the inside of them so we can leave the horses in if we need to - we use it as overnight stables in the winter.

It was expensive - about £3,500 I think but I reckon it will last 15-20 years easily.

Just to add that I have rubber mats inside mine (on grass) and have a deep (10"-12") shavings bed in there in the winter.

We have grass mats outside which works really well as it doesn't get muddy, you could always try a pen outside with mats in it as long as you don't mind moving fencing.

On our pen we made it so that one of the open shelter gates closes the pen if you see what I mean.

It is brilliant - yes expensive but if you google it you will see why. It is actually our second one - we sold one when we moved overseas and didn't hesitate to order another one when we came back.

A wise investment I like to think (not sure husband wouldn't have bought a blow over type for a third of the cost to be honest but thankfully my choice prevails for horses!).

There's a mobile shelter in the field next to us, it's been in an exposed position for years (doesn't need to move, was bought to thwart planning permission I think) and has never shown any sign of budging an inch. It still looks in lovely condition too. I don't imagine it was top of the range as the farmer never spends money unless he absolutely has to!

Would love to know which company you used? Am looking at Chart or Timberstore so far, any opinions?
Think going to go for it, as have a tractor we can use to tow it - great to know we can use a Landy!
I was hoping of only spending £2,000 on it though for a double one. Yikes, does that mean the ones I am looking at are flimsier and going to blow away….

Don't know either of the other firms you mentioned, can only vouch for Redmire as that is all I have had but they are a sort of forever investment - will definitely outlive my two horses.

I've got two mobiles on skids. Huge great things. Have moved them twice, they shifted beautifully. Made by Prime. Couldn't recommend them more.

We've had two mobile shelters for 12 years. We've moved them once (towed with a tractor) and are about to move them again (picking them up with the forks of a digger hopefully). We live in a very exposed part of the Pennines. They've never remotely moved and aren't pegged down. We've had doors on them for the past five. One has metal skids, the other doesn't, just the wooden skids it was built on. Ours were around £1k each. The quality and build was good, but the company was a pain in the butt to deal with!
