Grooming kit and bags

Hi I wanted some advice on kit and bags - I dont know much about them as only had a few lessons but my horsey friends birthday is coming up soon and she has hinted at a grooming kit bag, are they any makes that are naff/I should avoid? She also has most of her grooming kit so I dont need one with the kit included but needs a new body brush - can you recommend one please?
I have seen some Shires ones that look nice and some other makes Rhinegold etc - can anyone offer me any advice please?

I use a builders tool box for my grooming kit. Don't know if there are any fashionable ones! Does your friend have any magic brushes for Her horse? I'd love a set of these for mine. Robinsons do them I believe.

Get a nice sturdy box not a bag - much more practical imo and you can sit on it .

We use those plastic two sided tray still boxes which are cheap and do the job well.

The best thing we own is a purpose bought hard box with grippy top which we use as a vet box (gamgee, tape, scissors, bandages, medicines etc) and it doubles as a mounting block.

I agree about magic brushes and also we love our metal comb brush (two spring loaded concentric circles) which is brilliant for mud.

Also we swear by our equine Furminator in the spring.

Other things we have in our grooming kits are body brush, dandy brush, water brush, sweat scraper, mini versions of our favourite shampoos, sponges, those little plastic shaver things for trimming sensitive areas, hoof picks, a plastic box with our plaiting kit in it etc.

I wouldn't use a bag.

Butkin, that hard box sounds just what I need - was it just from a hardware shop, or somewhere horsey?

You get them from tack shops. They are designed to be mounting blocks are very spacious for your kit and come with a metal carrying handle. Had ours for 20+ years but sure they must still make them.

Butkin you can get plastic versions of the box you describe in tack shops - we keep art supplies in one and use it as a step for the DCs to cook!

I used to keep my basic grooming stuff in a small rucksack, my nag bag. It helped keep out the extraneous hay/straw/shavings/hair/gunk that the open tray attracted.

Bentley do nice bags if she specifically wanted one (they do them without kit) but I also use a builders tool box. I have a small one for everyday and a large one on wheels for shows. It has little sections for plaiting kit, hairnets, stocks. A section for clean a section for dirty (hoof oil etc) I love it

I prefer my Bentley bag. I've had all sorts of boxes and trays over the years but they are a pain to lug around. Much easier to have the bag over my shoulder so I can still carry tack/buckets etc and save myself a lot of walking to and fro. It only looks small but it holds masses of stuff.
