How is the season going for everyone so far?

Hi all,

It has been a while since i have checked into the tack room. I hope everyone is well. I was just wondering what you/ your kids and their ponies have been up to recently? i know a lot of people here compete showing, jumping and PC. Any pictures?

DS1 is going from strength to strength with his pony and I am just thrilled for him. He has moved away from show jumping- he was always a bit of a self preservationist and has been out giving dressage and showing a whirl instead. He went out yesterday and did intro a, coming third with a fantastic 71.95%. I am over the moon for the pair of them!

Aside from that he has been to several PC events, fun days and the like. They went on a PC group hack over h/t and had his first ever gallop. He was so pleased with himself! :D He is off to his first ever camp this summer. Its seven day residential... eek! He is very excited, having been sent the kit list I am feel very daunted!! Any tips from those of you who have been there and done it?

That all sounds great fun TS. Boys love to gallop so great he's doing it in the controlled environment of the Pony Club.

Much to our relief DD and her 128 (12.2) show pony qualified for the Royal International at Rutland County yesterday. They have missed the ticket by one at about 6 shows this Spring/Summer so glad to get it done at the last attempt.

We're starting our HOYS qualifiers at South of England on Saturday. we found it easier to qualify for HOYS than RI last year as the pony doesn't mind all the county show atmosphere!

My DS refuses to join the pony club much to my sadness. He also loves galloping and jumping. He is making good progress with dpony and has jumped a couple of clear rounds at tiny sj and xc comps.
My mare is going brilliantly sj, and has won 5 out of her last 8 classes, and been placed once as well. eventing has been a slow start due to the weather, but. Lovely double clear on our only outing so far. Next BE event is in a fortnight Grin

Hob - would he be tempted by tetrathlon? I know lots of boys join the PC for that alone...... www.pcuk.org/index.php/disciplines/tetrathlon/what_is_tetrathlon/

Sadly I'm grounded as dhorse has a long term cough caused by a bacterial infection (2 months and counting) and we're trying to nail it with some hugely expensive antibiotics at the moment. All my summer plans are out the window as even if he is fixed soon he'll be too unfit - not happy.

Frosty, sorry to hear about the cough, my dire developed COPD last winter and I missed months of competing, many sympathies.
Can't tempt him with tetrathalon, he is a very good shot at clays, and runs well but dislikes swimming Hmm

My youngster got backed and is doing brilliantly! I'm very proud!

I have my first lesson on him tomorrow, I've only ridden him twice (had the baby weight to shift first), som I'm both nervous and excited! I have pics but am on my phone.

I'm so excited about this little horse, he's turning out to be my dream horse, I've had him since 8 months old :)

Frosty I mentioned the tetrathlon to DS in passing who actually said it sounds like fun and he thinks his performance in th other phases will outweigh his swim ( cocky little toe rag Wink) , will ring local PC at w/e and see if they have a team

Sounds like most people are having a great time - coughs not included as that sucks.
I loved tetrathlon when I was in PC and swimming was also my weakest section, come to think of it the shoot wasn't great at times either! I once hit my next door neighbour target instead of my own.
Congratulations Butkin on your Ri qualification, we only did a few this year with the old dartmoor and had 4 2nds and the one time 2nd qualified we finished 3rd. She is however proving to be so safe at the busiest show for my 3 year old dd to ride round, we got a lovely photo of the 2 of is at bath and west last weekend.
The young Connie has stepped up and jumped round 2 Ri tracks and it's all looking very promising as he is getting consistently high conf and show scores.
Might see you at south of England as we have both down there for the hoys, although not till the afternoon so no early morning start for us!

Stares enviously at MrM and considers if leaving at 3.30am is early enough for a 8am class at South of England !!!

(however back home in time to watch the Derby so not all bad...)

Sounds like everyone has loads going on, Frosty hope the cough clears up soon!

I've discovered eventing this year, and am thoroughly hooked. I've only done two so far, but really enjoyed them. I'm even starting to enjoy dressage for the first time!

3.30! That was us last weekend for bath and west. When your home though I will still be there. We do hae an early start next Friday for three counties as we are going with someone who is on at 8, my class isn't till at least 1.30 :-/
Flex I keep trying to get into dressage buts it's not happening yet!

Was early enough - we were at the showground by 5.40am!!

Wrong leg (unusually) in show cost us though... Not going anywhere for a while now - probably BSPS mid summer champs as I think we're not going to go to Lincoln despite being entered..

That's a shame, we had a pole but for a first hoys with the Connie I was really pleased. We are entered at Lincoln but not sure if we will go or not, Nps area 7 at Bury farm has sp flat qualifiers and I only have 1 entry so far and that's a 14.2!

NPS 7 at Slapton is a possible for us. We're going to make a plan this weekend. However we were only 5th under David Puttock at Suffolk last year so probably a waste of time for us.. Depends on where producer is going. We'd like to go to Arena UK (SP always goes well there) but too expensive unless they have a lorry full.

Hi BW - Strong class wasn't it. Poppy Carter thoroughly deserved to win on Rupert (Rotherwood Rainmaker). He's the only pony we've never beaten although we've twice got higher ride marks than him.

We thought the 2nd was lucky to get it's ticket as I struck off on the wrong leg when doing it's trot across the diagonal on the go-round, right when the judge was watching it.

We were pulled surprisingly low anyway so she didn't like us and then we wrong legged it in the show for the first time ever in a class. Deserved to come nowhere...

We're having a break now but hope to be at Kent and New Forest.

Wow lucky you BW - what class did you qualify for? We're definitely skipping Lincoln - DD can go to school instead!
