Falling off and replacing hats

So, as you have no doubt gathered from my thread title, I fell off me horse at the weekend. He was being over-excited and skippy (translation - trying to canter sideways), I tipped forward (i know, I know!) and we parted company. I landed on my arse (thankfully well-padded and now a fetching shade of purple) but I know my head also made contact with the ground. basically, the contact points were arse followed by back then back-of-head. The fall was in an indoor school which has a good thick layer of rubber down. My head is not sore, I didn't feel a hard hit when I fell BUT would you replace your hat after that?

Ta!

Yes you will not be able to tell if it's damaged and for safety it's best to replace it

Aeroaddict · 25/11/2013 14:39

Yes you definitely should. If I am completely honest I probably wouldn't though in that situation.

Booboostoo · 25/11/2013 17:30

Yes I have replaced my hat after every fall unless I was 100% certain that my head did not touch the ground. In your case I would not hesitate. Hats save lives, you don't want to be relying on a damaged hat.

The advice is yes however I wouldn't. Taking into account what happened and the surface you fell on then i wouldn't but probably shouldn't admit to this!

Hmm, differing opinions! I think I'll probably replace it, but it's a bummer as it's not that old.

Thanks all.

Keep it and wear for turning out and getting in of you do that x

frostyfingers · 26/11/2013 17:00

How about getting it checked - I did when I had a fall and wasn't sure whether it had been damaged.

Lovesswimming · 27/11/2013 09:53

I fell off in a very similar way to you a few years ago, I have to admit I didn't replace it due to the fall and the surface. But when I went over his head out hacking and my head hit the floor first I got rid straight away.
