We have a 21 year old 13.3hh pony (very fine build) who has been loaned by lovely people but we are about to have him back as outgrown. He's way off wanting to retire but there's no chance of a new loaner this time of year. He was on loan as gd outgrew him a while ago.
I think he needs keeping going over the winter and then see what spring brings. Gd had a baby in April and hasn't ridden much since, but is a very competent, well balanced and quiet rider. She would look very lanky on him, but is well under 9 stone.
I'm very tempted to let her potter about the school and hack out on him over the winter while dh or I look after baby. This would keep him going, and get her riding again. She will look silly as 5'4, legs hanging down etc, but do you think its unkind to a very much loved pony?
Just as an afterthought, is anyone in leicestershire (Woodhouse Eaves) looking for an angel of a pony to part loan/loan in the spring or ride over winter in return for help? Pm me if you are.
